When it comes to the internet there are many things we can do. We can talk to poeple many miles away and never leave the house or pick up the phone. We can have meetings and get jobs done. I agree that we should need to evolve distance educations to the next generation. As long as we have internet, the more people are going to learn how to use it. We need to be able to show the next generation how to move forward.
I agree, I think we have a responsibility to at least get our students on board with the new technologies as we learn them. My English class participated in a video conferencing project with high school students in our county. They actually spoke via video cam to each other, then used our Angel accounts to keep writing journals. I was more of an observer, our computer tech got it set up, but I'm anxious to try again.
ReplyDeleteHi this is Brittany from your class.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we should introduce it to the next generation, but honestly, I think that we are the exception. What I mean is that we, as educators, desire to understand the inner and outer workings of the internet and the many capabilities that it has; however, I feel that in the real world, the roles are reversed. It is the next generation that is introducing the internet and other technologies to thier parents. They may not be using the internet for educational purposes, although many students are, but I do think that they are more literate in terms of technology then their parents. What do you think?
Yes I agree with you. I love technology, but I am finding out that my students has a lot to teach me too. It is taking eveything I know to keep up with them. I have show my own parents a lot of new technology over the years, and my children are show me alot of teachnology too.

DeleteI love the combination of the "old" for lack of a better word and the new generation coming together. I too have learned a lot from my students and amazingly can take what they have shown me to the next level. If I get an opportunity to play around with the technology, I can usually teach them to do something they did not think was possible. I think it goes to prove that at certain stages of our cognitive development, we are not capable of understanding everything and you do need to be more mature to see the full scope of what the technology can do.
DeleteYes, I agree Brittany, this generation of students is much more computer literate than most of their parents. When I first introduce new technologies to my classes, (Google Docs, Google Earth, Angel, etc.) I always tell my kids to show their parents what they are doing. I want the parents to feel comfortable with the kids being on these sites.

ReplyDeleteHi Michelle. Just confirming access to your blog.
ReplyDeleteTim.
I find that my boys often learn things way before I do with technology. When my 7th graders came in a few years ago they were amazed I had a smart phone. Now they come in and are like that is so old and normal. I seem to always have to find new technology to keep them interested and up to date with their world in the classroom.
